Eco/social art project Bellow Forth invites community to participate in Land regeneration ceremony in northern New Mexico burn scar

Bellow Forth, with generous funding from and as a part of the 2026 Monument Lab Re:Generation Team, will host a celebratory event, participatory ceremony, and artistic showcase near Mineral Hill, NM on September 12, 2026. This event synthesizes a multi-phase, Land and community-based ecological art project focused on regenerating Lands and soils affected by the 2022 Calf Canyon and Hermit’s Peak Wildfires.

MINERAL HILL, NM On September 12. Bellow Forth (2023–present) is an eco-social art initiative, grounded in Traditional Ecological Knowledge and dedicated to restor(y)ing soil health and ecosystem/ecocultural resilience through art, storytelling, scientific research, education, and community collaboration across wildfire-affected land in northern New Mexico.

The Bellow Forth project began in 2023 in response to the devastating impacts of the 2022 Calf Canyon and Hermit’s Peak Wildfires. This project addresses the vital need for regeneration by implementing local ecological knowledge, community stories, and ecosystem science with art practice. We endeavor to advance novel strategies—blending empirical science with Indigenous and local knowledge and art—as legitimate pathways for facing the climate crisis and building resilient futures for New Mexican communities. Bellow Forth outlines such potentials, as a multi-year project bringing these forces together. On September 12, we will host an event that invites peoples and communities to take part in these ideas and learn about/contribute to these intentions, and long-term ecological research.

We invite YOU and your community to take part in this event and ceremony, facilitating unconventional, restorative practices. We invite you to take part in grieving the loss, while also blessing, planting, burying, and celebrating what’s possible, what might become. The day will include ceremony and prayer from Tewa Elders, and an educational workshop about above and belowground communities through burying handcrafted quilts embedded with beneficial fungi and the planting of native trees, shrubs, and seeds. Our shared labor will be followed by a feast in the baby forest surrounded by soundworks and music performances tuned towards the benefit of the entire ecosystem.

A shuttle and caravan will depart from the San Geronimo Fire Station, approximately 15 minutes from the project site. Food and provisions will be provided, and attendees are encouraged and welcome to camp overnight. There are bathrooms and running water on site. Tents/beds can be accommodated depending on need. If possible, visitors are encouraged to bring their own tents.
